If you are tired of looking at dull gray concrete, there are some easy projects if you are serious about having a go at home improvement DIY, you can easily give your patio, driveway or garage a refreshing new look.

Decorative concrete work costs about double that of regular concrete, which is why a lot of people cannot afford it.

However, there are cheaper means to beautify concrete after it has cured, without having to pay skilled tradesmen.

Acid-based concrete stains are becoming more and more fashionable for coloring concrete surfaces. They chemically react with the fibres in the cement material to produce permanent color with a variegated or mottled appearance similar to that of marble. This results in a natural, stylish looking surface.

Water-based concrete stains are an alternative to acid stains but are much more user friendly because they are so much less toxic. These stains do not chemically react with the concrete; they are absorbed into the porous surface and act like a colorant. The big advantage of water based stains is the wide range of colors on hand.

If you want to risk going beyond the basic staining of your concrete, consider using some scoring techniques to create patterns on the surface.

You can make your concrete resemble a tiled floor for instance. It is just up to your imagination. A mini angle grinder with a 4 inch grinding wheel is the ideal tool for this.

The important thing to bear in mind when scoring is to draw the pattern on the concrete first and ensure you are content with the way it looks because scoring is irreversible.

Epoxy paints make an excellent coating for garage floors and cellar floors. Many industrial floors have epoxy coatings because of their hardiness and resilience to chemical spills as well as their appearance.

In recent years, however, it has become very popular for domestic use with the availability of an growing number of different colors. This is not a difficult project, but the key to successful application is surface preparation.

Epoxy paints have also become obtainable in a water based form making it safe for the DIY’er and ideal for indoor applications. They cost a little more than stains. For a 400 square foot floor, you’ll spend about $200 for the materials needed for this job.

You see? You do not have to spend big money to improve your home. You have the capacity to do it yourself. With some instructions and a little bit of work, anyone can turn dull concrete into a masterpiece of their own.

Basic Golfing Tips for Beginners: 4

We’ve all the seen the incredibly long yet accurate drives of Tiger Woods. The ball flies through the air and lands in the middle of the fairway, 300 yards away.

It is difficult not to let jealousy rise in us as we wonder if we could ever dare to hope to drive like that. Luckily, long drives are not the crux of the game of golf.

Enter the short game for without good short game skills, all the long drives are not worth a light.

We call the ‘short game’ those shots that get you onto the green from roughly a hundred feet away from the hole, no matter whether it’s from the fairway, a bunker, the rough or a drop zone. It includes all chips, sand shots and pitches.

It is in this middle stage of the game of golf that you get to use the higher numbered clubs, your pitching iron and sand wedge or lob wedge.

You will find practice areas on most golf courses. You really ought to spend some time practising hitting the ball onto the green from various distances. Try to hit the ball into a ten-foot circle in the centre of the green at first. Experiment using your wedges, but remember that what works well for one person, might not work so well for you because your particular swing is an unknown factor in the equation.

After you have got into the habit of being able to perform this skill consistently, it’s time to start practising in a sand bunker. Being able to get the ball out of a bunker can cut your score dramatically.

Plant your feet firmly into the sand with your left foot turned toward the hole. Imagine a 4-inch circle around the ball and try to hit the edge of the circle that is furthest away from the ball.

Kick up lots of sand with the ball and swing completely through as normal. Don’t slow down the swing at all when or after you hit the ball. It should jump up onto the green and stop almost dead. This doesn’t work very well though unless the sand is soft and dry. On hard, compacted surfaces, you might need to avoid actually hitting the sand all together.

However, as in all aspects of the game of golf, only practice will help you to improve your score.

Credit card debt is a much discussed topic in both commercial and social circles. A big proportion of the population has has gotten itself into trouble with credit card debt.

The main reason for so many credit card related casualties is that many people don’t understand the idea of credit cards properly. They treat credit cards as free money. So all the control, which would otherwise have been exercised when spending hard-earned money, goes by the by.

Which means that people overspend and get into credit card debt. They keep spending until they reach the credit maximum on their credit card. Some people treat it like a game and consider it a defeat (or consider their credit card under utilised) if they don’t hit the credit limit quick enough. These needless spends result in a condition where they are not able to pay back their credit card debts and end up paying interest on the amount they owe.

This keeps increasing their credit card debt and they soon discover that the interest component has become a standard element in their monthly expenses and it is present even if they spend nothing on their credit card. That is credit card debt at its worst. Soon they realize that their present credit card can no longer handle their needs and they start looking around to get another credit card. With the additional credit, they let themselves free again and follow a shopping routine. Soon the credit limit of the new credit card is reached as well and they again shirk on payments. This is how credit card debt accumulate.

After a while, they might hear about credit card debt consolidation and other credit card debt elimination techniques. They are quick to seize such credit card debt reduction techniques, but that’s not because they are serious about reducing their credit card debt but because of the attractive low APR offers. As if it were treasure, they again go back to building up their credit card debt. All the while they are spoiling their credit card status and they soon come to understand that no one is prepared to loan them any money because of their credit history.

At this point, they can only get a secured credit card (ie where you first deposit money into your credit card account and then only do you get the privilege of spending it (50-100% of it) using a credit card. Credit card debt collection agencies, the auction of their goods and bankruptcy is the next thing that awaits them and their dream is blown away in a moment.

Clinical Depression? What is That?

Depression is a mental disorder that is quite often characterized by lengthy periods of sadness and melancholy, say the experts from the field of psychiatry.

However, just because one person slopes around and hates the world in general, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he/she is suffering from depression, but if this kind of behaviour, that feeling of emptiness, loss of self-worth and absolute lack of hope for happiness goes on , then, that individual is probably, indeed, depressed. Still, there are several types of depression too.

Manic or Bipolar depression is characterized by sudden and extreme mood swings – one minute the person is euphoric while the next minute (day or week), he or she feels as if he or she is hell.

Postpartum depression is characterized by a prolonged sadness and a prolonged feeling of emptiness by a new mother where physical stress during child birth, an uncertain sense of responsibility towards the new born baby can be just some of the possible reasons why some new mothers suffer from this.

Dysthimia is characterized by a slight similarity with depression, although this kind has been proven to be a lot less severe, however. as with any case of depression, it needs to be sorted out immediately.

Cyclothemia is characterized by a nominal similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the sufferer of this mental illness has a problem with severe mood swings.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is characterized by being depressed only during specific seasons (i.e. Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn). However, studies prove that more people actually fall ill during the Winter and Fall seasons. Or they could suffer from severe mood swings, wherein a person’s mood may shift from happy to sad to angry in quite a short period of time.

‘Clinical depression’ or as some might call it, ‘major depression’, is the actual medical term for depression. Actually, clinical depression is more of a disorder than an illness, since it refers only to those who are suffering from symptoms that cause depression.

However, despite it being an actual disorder, clinical depression can be treated very successfully. Doctors are usually very optimistic that patients suffering from clinical depression will soon be well on their way to regaining good mental health if they are treated as soon as they have been diagnosed. Patients who have sought treatment for clinical depression have proven to be quite successful in their hopes, given that 80 percent of those treated have found relief from their illness.
