Acai Juice – The King of Juices!
Bret Mirgan | December 10, 2010Where does the acai berry grow? The acai berry tree is indigenous to southern America and exists mainly in Brazil, Panama and Ecuador. It is in the outskirts of the Amazon River where the trees grow in large numbers.
The berries are reaped bi-annually, with each tree providing up to twenty lbs of fruit per harvest. The strenuous swampy terrain of the Amazon is the reason why the acai berry don’t escape to different countries of the planet as a fresh fruit. The knock on effect is that, across the rest of the planet, it is generally found as a powdered supplement or a packaged juice.
Is acai a “super food”? So, is the acai berry a “super food”? In regards to its antioxidant profile – most definitely! Lots of studies have shown that acai has the highest antioxidant effect upon free radicals than any other fruit or vegetable! Acai is bursting with natural anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants of the flavonoid clan.
This amazing antioxidant content is what helps prevent life threatening illnesses like cancer and heart. A study undertaken by Scientist Stephen Talcott and released in the 2006 Journal of Agricultural Food and Chemistry brought to light that the anthocyanins in acai killed human leukemia cells. Up to eighty-six percent of the leukemia cells that were exposed to acai antioxidants self-destructed.
So what else is in acai? The acai berry contains a surprising quantity of plant sterols, fatty acids, and amino acids for a berry. And this soups up its role as a “super food”. The pulp only makes up about ten percent of the whole berry, the other ninety percent is a hard seed that lives at its center.
It is also important to state that the acai berry is contains more antioxidants than any other fruit.
