Colorful Foods Plus Whole Grains Can Optimize Your Food Intake

The foods that are found in nature that are the most colorful also provide the highest dietetic value for our bodies. There are very few “white” foods that offer much nutrition, cauliflower and jicama are the only noteworthy exceptions. Orange, red, purple, green and even brown foods offer the highest dietetic value. White flours and white rice are extremely void of nutrition.

Many years ago, the majority of breads and flour products were made with the exceedingly healthful flour that was made from the whole grain. This integrated the entire seed, the fiber-rich outside bran layer and the germ. However, in an endeavor to make flour last longer, white flour was created. Whole grain flour tends to spoil more rapidly and it can also attract a bug called a weevil that will eat it up.

So in order to protect foods for a longer phase of time, flour prepared from only the endosperm of the seed was created. This flour was light and white and often even bleached with chemicals in order to make it white and pretty. It is interesting to note that while whole grain flour will draw weevils, white flour is actually a inherent insecticide because insects cannot live on a nutritional regime of pure white flour, as there is not enough nutritional value.

This highly refined white flour became a big hit. People enjoyed the lightness of it and the appealing white food that it made. However, it was soon revealed that this appealing colorless flour contained almost no dietetic value so in an endeavor to recover some of the food value that had been lost, the flour was enriched by adding back in 4 vitamins and minerals. However, this made little differentiation because 15 vitamins and minerals had been lost and not any of the roughage was added back in.

Even today the mass of breads and baked goods that are existing to us are made from this nutritionally devoid enriched white flour. Even most breads that are labeled “wheat” are ordinarily made from enriched flour. If you want to get tremendous nourishment from the breads that you consume, you need to make sure that the first thing on the ingredient label is “whole” grain flour and never “enriched”.

White foods tend to be void of the major nutrients. The more processed a food is the less healthy it tends to be. White rice is similar to white flour in its dietetic value. In order to receive the maximum dietetic value you need to look for whole grain foods and foods that are made from whole grains are never white but instead they are shades of brown.

All of the multihued foods are essential when it comes to diet. Orange fruits and vegetables include beta-carotene, purple vegetables and fruits include anthocyanins and resveratrol and the green fruits and vegetables offer an assortment or other essential antioxidants and critical vitamins and minerals. The most multi-colored diets are the most healthful.

In order to maximize your nutrients, consume multi-colored foods and get rid of all white foods with the exception of cauliflower and jicama. Include some lean protein sources such like fish, poultry or lean meats or if you are a vegetarian make sure and include a variety of beans and legumes for vegetarian protein. And make sure that the bread that you eat is prepared from whole grain flours and not enriched flours.
